It’s official: The Israeli Gov’t Rules in Favor of Sending Women to the Back of the Bus
Terrible news for women: The government ruled today that it is legal for the public buses in Israel to send women to the back of the bus. The Hebrew report is here. I’m preparing a proper blog post in response, in the coming days. Anyone want to share thoughts and ideas?

I had an experience where I got on a nearly empty bus and sat in the front, as the bus filled I noticed the segregation, but chose to keep my seat, despite the angry stares of a young man standing next to me. It was too late to find a seat further back. And besides, its not like there’s a sign on the bus.
If some people want segregated buses, then they should be dedicated lines with clearly marked signs in at least 3 languages so that we can CHOOSE whether or not we want to get on the bus. If I choose to get on a segregated bus, then I should respect the posted sign, but if I don’t want to sit in the back, I shouldn’t be forced to against my will. I guess you might say that this conservative, religious woman is pro-choice when it comes to bus segregation!
